Ian Burkard

This gorgeous, poignant piece is the work of artist and illustrator Ian Burkard. Straying from his typical style of clean ink work, Ian decided to try his hand with paint and foil, and enjoyed the liberating process of looking for colors within shadow and light. Ian was born in Wisconsin but spent most of his childhood roaming the United States. During kindergarten Ian discovered his red-green color blindness, after failing a basic coloring test, and has spent most of his life obsessed with trying to see color like everyone else. He realized his joy for figure painting while pursuing a degree in Computer Animation at Ringling School of Art and Design and upon graduating went on to work at Blue Sky Studios. Modeling characters and environments for Robots, Ice Age 2 & 3, Horton Hears a Who!, No Time for Nuts, and Surviving Sid, and Rio, Ian is currently Lead Character Modeler on an upcoming feature film.
